  2. Senior Checklist Mrs. Baker- Academics (classes, transcript issues) Ms. Sisk-College and Career (ACT/Fee waivers) Mrs. Cooper-Transcripts & College Visit Days • Read the Senior Message! Email Ms. Sisk if you haven’t signed up to receive it yet. siskdb@scsk12.org • Complete your senior resume and give it to your English teacher by the Sep. 30th deadline. • Apply online to a VARIETY of schools (local/state,public/private). • Pay careful attention to Early Application deadlines (UTK=Nov1st). • Take the ACT in Sept, Oct. and/or Dec. to improve score.

  4. ACT Registration • Work on ACT prep online and/or attend an off-campus fee-based ACT prep class (Singleton. Jane Ross, Kaplan). • Create a ACT web account on the ACT website. • Get a ACT fee waiver if you are receiving Free/Reduced lunch. See Sr Message for times. • Register online for the Sept., Oct. or Dec. ACT to improve score before institutional scholarship deadlines.

  5. Getting Ready • Complete self assessment. • Pages 9-14 • Have a “Realistic Conversation” with your parents. • You have choices to consider: • 4 Year College • 2 Year College • Career Technical • Military

  6. College Search • Use a college search site (p.27) • Look at Admissions Req. for your top 3-5 schools (25-26 & on college website). • If you have chosen a major, check to see that your schools offer that major. • Complete the Grid on Page 22. • Take a tour of each campus ASAP. • Register through the college’s website to receive important information (U of Mphs=True Blue Tiger, UT Knox=VIP).

  10. 2yr College, Technical Schoolsand Military Options • 2 year college = Open admissions. • Page 53 SWTCC programs • Hope and TN Achieves Scholarship • Technical schools - Entrance test in place of ACT. • TN Technology Center page 54 • Lottery $ and TN Achieves Scholarship • Military – ASVAB (Sept. 17th) , ROTC/ACT • Various programs listed on page 55 • Military scholarships listed on page 37

Scholarships & Financial Aid • National Scholarships-Free Online Searches (pg. 27) • State Scholarships- TN HOPE (p42) & TN Achieves (p52)(www.tnachieves.org) • Institutional Scholarships (p41) - Early deadlines • Bolton Scholarships (p27) • Fed. Fin. Aid (p39)- FAFSA (grants, Fed. Loans) • Financial Aid Meeting December 3rd • Complete the FAFSA between January 1st and February 1st 2013 (ASAP after Jan. 1st).

Senior Resume • Have current contact information with professional email( formal name, intials, etc.-no slang/nicknames) • Sample on page 60 • List GPA & ACT. • Use info. during high school/summers only. • Note work and school/community volunteer experiences. • Include clubs, activities, skills and hobbies. • Highlight any awards you have earned while in high school.

  13. Letters of Recommendation • Identify teachers and/or counselor (Mrs. Baker or Ms. Sisk) to write your LOR. • Complete LOR request form. • Page 61-62-available in guidance • Submit high school resume’ (required). • Make request at least 2 weeks ahead.
