  1. 5 Vital Tips on Appearing in Court Hearings Through Video Conferencing It’s no surprise that video conference court hearings are becoming more common. After all, this technology offers many advantages. While it has been around even before the pandemic, the current public health crisis has no doubt accelerated its adoption. Why are courts switching to video conference court hearings? For one, video conferencing is more efficient, allowing for more court hearings per day than physical meetings. It is also offers a great operational cost saving to the judiciaries and the law enforcement to perform their daily tasks at lower cost. The new cloud based vide conferencing system have eliminated the need for a expensive hardware and one can use a laptop with a web cam to conduct a full featured court hearing. Five essential tips before appearing in a video conference court hearing: Are you preparing for a virtual hearing session? Although it’s not in person, it’s still vital for you to follow proper etiquette, and act as if you were attending physically. Here are some tips for you to consider: 1.Make yourself presentable. Even if the hearing is happening through video conference, you should still dress for the part. Make sure to wear something professional, a suit and tie, perhaps, or a formal top. You can even throw a blazer on to complete the look. Don’t forget to brush your hair, put on light makeup, and practice good hygiene. 2.Prepare your background. A poorly designed background can distract the other video callers as you speak. Consider using a neutral set like solid-painted walls or a view of your home office. 3.Double-check your set-up. Experiencing technical difficulties during the hearing can take away any air of professionalism. It’s best to test your devices before entering the call. Ensure that your headset, microphone, computer, and internet are working correctly. 4.Be early. Arriving late to a court hearing is not something you want to do, whether online or in-person. Try to connect to the remote session at least 5 to 10 minutes before the courtroom starts. 5.Plan ahead. Are you worried about doing or saying wrong things during the hearing? Make sure to run a practice session at least a day before the event and go through your testimony, closing, objection, and questions.
