  1. How to Remove the Protective Covering from Your Acrylic Glazing ?

  2. The acrylic glazing, or also known as plexiglass or plastic, is a famous alternative for glass being used in affordable picture framing as this is shatterproof and lightweight at the same time.

  3. Introduction Every time you buy acrylic glazing from providers of frames, this will be delivered to you with both sides having a protective covering as this helps prevent scratches on the glazing. You have to remove this covering before you frame your artwork. Since acrylic has the tendency to get scratched easily, it is important to be extra careful when you remove the covering so that you will avoid causing any damages on your new framing material.

  4. Peel to Remove Protective Covering

  5. Basic Guidelines ●Work on a flat and smooth surface when you remove the protective covering of the acrylic glazing ●Use your fingernail carefully when you peel the covering back on one corner ●Make sure that you don’t dig into the acrylic

  6. Steps To Follow ●Hook your nail on the covering until you grip it firmly with the tips of your fingers ●Once a grip is secured, peel in a steady and smooth motion so that the cover will not rip or drop ●Keep your hand on the still covered portion to steady the acrylic instead of putting it on the already exposed part ●Steady the whole thing by keeping your supporting hand right under the part where you are peeling ●Flip the acrylic over on the other side and follow the same steps. See to it that you are on a clean and flat surface so that the newly exposed acrylic will not get scratches

  7. Use Cardboard Tube

  8. When to go for cardboard technique ? In case you are not confident that you can peel the cover evenly using your hands, you can always use a cardboard tube for guiding the cover up and away from the glazing. These are the tubes often used for mailing large photographs or posters and you can find them in many shipping centers or post offices.

  9. Steps To Follow ●When you follow this method, you begin in one corner. ●Put the tube on the corner you chose and use your nail to gently peel up that corner. ●After raising the cover a bit, press this against the tube then hold this in place. ●Just roll the cardboard tube across the glazing to smoothly pull up the cover for you. ●In the event that sticking happens, don’t just throw away the acrylic. Aliphatic naphtha, hexane and kerosene can all dissolve that stubborn adhesive and let you get rid of the protective cover easily.

  10. ●We make sure that the type of material such as glass, foam board, and mats that are used are economical and at the same time are sound quality from the conservation framing stand point. ●Paint Box also provides its clients with quality mirrors of different thicknesses to reach a higher precision.
