Transferring Sites & Trails • MOF seeking other parties to take over management of sites & trails • Site & trail lists will be posted on website & available to public • groups encouraged to contact MOF if interested in managing a site or trail • MOF will focus on transferring responsibility for site & trail management to other parties

Managed Sites & Trails (2002) • Given resources available, MOF will manage 605 sites & 170 trails in 2002 • Sites & trails may be managed under contract, FS staff, agreement, or other means • maintenance activities will focus on retaining infrastructure & public safety & environmental concerns

  5. Unmanaged Sites & Trails (2002) • 712 sites & 319 trails will not receive scheduled servicing & maintenance in 2002 • Unmanaged sites & trails will not be cancelled (Sec 6 establishment retained) • Garbage barrels will be removed • Public may continue to use areas

Agreements (non-commercial) • groups encouraged to contact MOF if interested in managing a site or trail • existing agreements will be honoured • agreements (for 2002) issued on first come basis • groups encouraged to work together • only enhanced site or trail fees may be charged • liability insurance & indemnity requirements

  8. Agreements (non-commercial) Longer term • MOF in discussions with MSRM • application process will be developed • liability, user fees, other terms & conditions are being worked on • objective - maximize number of sites & trails transferred to other parties

  9. Sites & Trails Transferred via LWBC • Pending Govt’ direction re. ORC proposal • MOF will identify sites & trails with commercial potential & send information to LWBC • LWBC transfers are proposed to happen over 3 phases (enhanced sites first) • MOF will work with LWBC to: • advertise sites & trails • award agreements to operate sites & trails in 2003 +

  10. Safety & Environmental Concerns • MOF will evaluate structures at unmananged sites & trails and note any concerns e.g. an older outhouse on site in a community watershed • MOF will monitor unmanaged sites and trails where “high” public safety or environmental concerns were identified

  11. Safety & Environmental Concerns • MOF will leave structures at unmanaged sites & trails unless public safety or environmental concerns arise • MOF will notify ADM Field Services & Timber Sales prior to removing structures
