  8. India and Energy • Conclusions • Domestic coal and gas production will not meet India’s primary energy needs • India needs to invest enormous sums in infrastructure to import and distribute coal and gas • At unprecedented rates • Unlikely to be achieved in next 5 years

  9. The Role for Solar Solar has enormous potential, because • India has not become part of the globalised market, and will continue to do so, because • India will have to become part of the globalised market.
