  1. WELCOME TO THE El Centro College Library - We Make It Possible for You!

  2. The Library is located on 2 floors: • The 1st floor contains copiers, reference books, best-sellers, magazines, paperbacks, and computers. • The 2nd floor contains the main collection – items that can be checked out.

  3. The Library Pathfinders subject guides: recommended sources of information (books, articles, websites) • Each month the Display Area focuses on a current topic, offering students a variety of books and viewpoints on that topic.

  4. The Circulation Counter is where you: • Check out Books • Pick up Reserve Items Left by Instructors • Pick up Back Issues of Magazines

  5. Checking Out Books: • Bring a picture ID (student ID card , Texas ID card, or Driver’s License) • Books are checked out for a 3-week time period, renewable (in person or online) for an additional three weeks • Check out 4 books per library visit up to a total of 10.

  6. Copy Center: • Make photocopies – 10 cents per page after you’ve sent up your Printing Account • Set up your Printing Account at the Circulation Desk – you will need a $1 to set up your account. The $1 gives you 10 copies. • Read back issues of magazines and newspaper from microfilm (which can be digitized for you).

  7. Trivia - the Copy Center contains microfilmfor the New York Times and Dallas Times Herald going back to the early 1900s.

  8. In the center of the Library, the Reference Desk staff are available to assist students during all hours the Library is open! You can also call (214-860-2174) or email a Librarian for help

  9. The Library subscribes to over 150 current magazines and journals. The most recent issue is always on display - feel free to read or browse your favorites, such as: Sports Illustrated… Vogue… Jet… Latina… Car & Driver… Texas Monthly… People…

  10. The Library has computers available for you to use: • in the Reference Area • in the Library classroom (when not used by a class) • These computers offer access to the Library Catalog (books), databases (articles) , and the Web.

  11. The Library subscribes to 8 different local and national newspapers, including the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Post Tribune, Wall Street Journal and New York Times. The Library has the current bestsellers and popular titles.

  12. The Reference Collection contains specialized dictionaries and encyclopedias for in-library use only. These include career guides, medical dictionaries, music encyclopedias, fashion encyclopedias, artist biographies, and more!

  13. Study tables, comfortable chairs and sofas are located throughout the Library.

  14. The Library has a study room available for group study.

  15. The paperback collection contains popular fiction titles.

  16. The scanner: • digitizes images • digitizes text

  17. The Law Library is located on the 2nd floor of the Library.

  18. The circulating (main) collection of the Library is located on the 2nd floor. These books can be checked out. Trivia - did you know that the Library has approximately 76,000 books in its collection?

  19. The 2nd floor contains multiple quiet study areas.
