  1. STACK Rubric:Reflections and Next Steps UW-La Crosse STAR II Team

  2. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away… The goals of the Wisconsin Grassroots Teacher Quality Assessment Model: • Create a set of valid and reliable performance assessment tools that will document student teachers’ attainment of science and math content knowledge and skills. • Use the information gathered through these assessments to guide on-going programmatic reform in teacher preparation and professional development. • Document the TQA for broader application.

  3. What is the content and pedagogical content knowledge needed for teaching mathematics and science? STACK Rubric Word Cloud

  4. Overall Themes The STACK Rubric provides key vocabulary and “talking points” regarding best-practices in math and science instruction. Concepts and Procedures Response to Pupil Questioning

  5. Overall Themes • The STACK Rubric with post-observation protocol provides quality feedback on math and science lessons, not just general feedback. Connections among Concepts

  6. Student Teacher Quotes • I would love to participate in this program. I feel that it would be beneficial not only for my growth as a student teacher, but for the science education program as a whole. Thanks for this opportunity! • I will agree to this evaluation to help student teachers receive better feedback about content knowledge. This sounds like a great way to help us(student teachers) evaluate exactly where we are at in terms of competency in our content area.

  7. University Supervisor Reflections • Thanks for sharing my ideas with the group! It really means SO much that for the FIRST time in all of my time at WSU and UWL that my contributions were taken seriously and shared...in the past, I was always a non-doctorate, therefore my ideas were looked at with turned up noses because theory was all that mattered. You have no idea how it feels to finally have someone even just listen to my thoughts. I truly appreciate it, and appreciate being a part of any process to make things better!

  8. Cooperating Teacher Reflections • Math: An “easy-to-use” tool that provides a way to organize the connection between content and pedagogy • Science:

  9. UW-La Crosse Recommendations • Use: Formative versus Summative • Vocabulary: Clarify terms • Training: Reliability • Time and Compensation: Extra observations • Program: Disjoint from SOE TC Tools

  10. UW-La CrosseNext Steps • Integrate into Field Experience II with connected methods coursework • Use video analysis in Field II and Student Teaching with STACKS Rubric • Embed into SOE Portfolio

  11. Always two there are, a master and an apprentice. May the force be with you.
