  1. Welcome to the 2014-2015 FJH School Year! Curriculum Night Math Skill Builder MA20 Mrs. Wright

  2. Samantha Wright 480-472-8368 Teaching at Fremont for 2 ½ years

  3. Purpose of MA20 This course is designed to support your student in basic skills as well as bridging those skills to the topics in their current math course. Students take pre and post tests for each unit in order to show their growth and mastery of each topic. This course does not require students to complete at home assignments, but does require full participation of all in-class activities. Students have been selected for this class based on AIMS scores and their need for improvement to meet the more rigorous Arizona College & Career Ready Standards.

  4. Your student was placed in MA20 due to his low score on AIMS math, which indicates that they are not performing at grade level. As we move towards the new standardized testing format, the material will become increasingly more difficult. Intervention classes have been implemented in an attempt to bring struggling students back to grade level. There is a possibility your student could return to their electives, if they demonstrate mastery of all skills in the intervention class and maintains an A or B in his regular math course.

  5. Materials • 1” or 1 ½” Binder designated for Math only that will be kept in the classroom • Dividers • Loose-leaf paper • Pencil pouch including • multiple pencils or mechanical pencils WITH lead • erasers • red grading pen • highlighter • manual sharpener *Any concerns regarding materials, please see teacher

  6. Expectations Students will arrive to class on time each day with appropriate materials. All in-class activities, notes, etc. will be completed with 100% student effort. Incomplete or lazy work will not be accepted for credit. Students must master (80% or higher) each unit test. If a student does not, they will have one week from the return date to retake the test.

  7. Planners • Needed every day • Student is required to write topics for the week every Monday. • Are a great tool for information on assessments and deadlines

  8. Weighted Grading Tests: 80% of quarterly grade Classwork: 20% of quarterly grade Semester Grade: Average of two quarters The only way for students to be successful on unit tests is for them to complete all classwork.

  9. Tutoring I will provide tutoring each week. Due to availability changes, I will post my tutoring times each week on the classroom “Tutoring Times” board and on my classroom website.
