  2. Job Description • Stylists are in charge of making outfit selections • Fashion stylists can style for a variety of events and clients such as: award shows, magazine editorials, movie wardrobe, daily client outfit selection, special events and more.

  3. Education • Most stylists are self made or simply find their way into the position. • Many start with internships, blogging or working with friends. • Full-time personal stylist Valerie Fowler says she simply made a website and got a phone call, thus receiving her first styling gig.

  4. Abilities • Color sense • Some fashion trend knowledge • Networking abilities to build clientele • Access to garments (either borrow or purchasing)

  5. Personal Qualities Stylists must be: • Driven • Hard-workers • Have good fashion sense • Be personable to work with clients

  6. Salary According to Fashion-Schools.org: • Entry Level Fashion Stylists: $150-$200/day • Experienced Fashion Stylists: $500-$5,000/day • Top-level Fashion Stylists: above $5,000/day; $100,000 or more annually

  7. Job Availability • Stylists can work independently, work for a company or both. • A search on SimplyHired.com reveals a new open position about every 1-3 days in varying U.S. states • While the economy has affected every job market, stylists can still make a decent income if they’re willing to put in the time and effort.
