  8. Program Goals • Increase awareness of m-Apps and their development impact • Provide systematic trend analysis and in-depth case studies of m-Apps • Provide “how to” manual to make m-Apps financially and operationally sustainable in developing countries

Program Objectives • Summarize trends and usage in m-Apps for development • Provide practical operational cases/examples and analyses of how mobile can be used to improve development outcomes • Analyze the mobile “ecosystem” in developing countries, and how this might be optimized to develop viable sectoral m-Apps • Identify innovative new mobile services and applications, including candidates for scaling-up and replication

Program Scope • 5 m-Sectoral Chapters • Mobile Money • Social Networking • Education • Health • Rural Development • 1 Technology Chapter • Mobile technology trends, including m-broadband • 1 Overview Chapter • Operationally useful, practical, and actionable ideas • Policy and regulatory guidance • Business and operating models in the mobile ecosystem

  11. Program Description • Phase I • Develop the 6 sectoral and technology chapters • Phase II • Summarize cross-sector lessons for overview chapter • Develop consolidated flagship report • Mass dissemination: Global workshop, road shows, etc.

  12. Analytical Approach - 1 • Review and analyze context • M-Broadband • Converged Devices • Location-based Services • Virtual Communities • Socio-cultural Environment • Collect sectoral examples • Literature Review • Field Surveys and Interviews • Experts’ Contributions for each Sector

Analytical Approach - 2 • Analyze Sectoral Examples • Impact, sustainability, limits, etc. • Usage frequency and scale-up potential • Impact of traditional services and technology advancement • Usage skills and barriers to adoption • Apply Evolutionary Models • Trends, scalability, policy/regulatory and operational implications
