  2. REVIEW OF PRESENTATION • UNDERSTANDING THE YOUTH • THE CHURCH AND YOUTH MINISTRY • YOUTH MINISTRY AND THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH • PRINCIPLES FOR MOBILIZING YOUTH FOR LOCAL MISSION – CHURCH PLANTING • EMBRACE – ACT - ASSIGNMENT

  3. THE WEAKNESS “Perhaps the greatest single weakness of the contemporary Christian Church is that millions of supposed members are not really involved at all and, what is worse, do not think it strange that they are not. As soon as we recognize Christ’s intention to make His Church a militant company we understand at once that the conventional arrangement cannot suffice. There is no real chance of victory in a campaign if ninety per cent of the soldiers are untrained and uninvolved, but that is exactly where we stand now.” -Elton Trueblood

  4. SOME HARD TRUTHS Truth : 97 % of all born again Christians have never led a lost soul to Jesus and 97% of all born again Christians never share their faith and this is because they have never been Discipled

People in this “birth cohort” exhibit similar characteristics, preferences, and values over their lifetimes(Center for Generation Kinetics) • the average period, generally considered to be about thirty years, during which children are born and grow up, become adults, and begin to have children of their own".[1] In kinship terminology, it is a structural term designating the parent-child relationship. • Generations (about the Millennials Ten Ways.doc

  21. MISSIONS BIBLICAL VIEW 3.2 The Biblical basis for Missions 3.2.4 Command of Christ – Obedience to God • Believers who do not share the Gospel and bear witness to Christ are being directly disobedient to His command • Mark 16:15-16 • John 17:13-21 • 2 Corinthians 5:14

  22. MISSIONS BIBLICAL VIEW 3.3 Missions Biblical View envisioning will help provide the youth with a sound basis to explore God’s call for their lives 3.4 Myths and Next Generation Mobilization

  23. DEALING WITH MYTHS 4.1 What are Myths • I Timothy 1:3-4 • I Timothy 4:7 4.2 Some of the myths that have power to influence the youth negatively towards global missions

  24. MYTH 1: • Christianity will always exist everywhere. • Truth: • There's no guarantee future generations will have a relationship with Jesus • Solution: • Intentionally evangelize the next generations. • Judges 2:10 • Psalms 78:4,6

  25. MYTH 2 : • Next Generation Leaders are uninterested in spiritual matters. • Truth: • This generation is searching for deep relevant truth. • Solution: • Next Generation leaders must model a dynamic relationship with Christ that demonstrates deep, relevant truth. • 1 Timothy 3:1

  26. MYTH 3 : • Next Generation Leaders are not mature enough to start new churches. • Truth: • The Bible does not set age limits for ministry. • Solution: • Believe, and live out, what the Word says about you. • 1 Peter 2:9 • 1 Tim 4:12; 2 Tim 1:7; • 1 John 2:14

  28. APPROACH FOR SHAPING 4.4 The Master Plan for Shaping a Generational Missional force – Guiding Principles (Dr Robert E. Coleman Master Plan of Evangelism)

  29. 4.4.1. WHAT IS THE END GOAL • Discipleship! • being; • rightly related to Christ as Savior • rightly related to Christ as Lord • rightly related to Christ as Teacher • How many in the church can confidently say Jesus is their Savior, Lord and Teacher?

  30. 4.4.2. The Call and Aim of discipleship It is for the disciple to become; • a fisher (procurer) of other men (Mt.4:19) • a reproducer of other disciples (2 Timothy 2:1-2) • like Christ, his teacher and master (Luke6:40) How many of us are seeing progress that glorifies God in these areas??

  31. Jesus taught his disciples by sharing principles with them, practicing before them by example and having them personally participate • We should learn from him to equip the next generation for effective missions

  32. Some Missions Slogans • ‘‘If you take missions out of the Bible, you won’t have anything left but the covers’’ – Nina Gunter • ‘‘The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed’’ – Hudson Taylor • ‘‘Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God’ – William Carey • ‘‘The Spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become’’ Henry Martyn

  33. Some Missions Slogans • ‘‘If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him’’ C.T. Studd • ‘‘We talk of the Second Coming; half the world has never heard of the first’’ Oswald J. Smith • ‘‘The gospel is only good news if it gets there in time’’ Carl F.H. Henry • ‘‘The mark of a great church is not its seating capacity, but its sending capacity’’ Mike Stachura • Missions is not the ‘ministry of choice’ for a few hyperactive Christians in the church. Missions is the purpose of the church - Unknown http://home.snu.edu/-hculbert/slogans.htm
