  4. Background of the department The department of Youth Training was established in December 2005 through a presidential circular. The mandate of the Department is contained in the presidential Circular No. 1 of 2005 and of May 2008 and aims at mainstreaming Youth Polytechnics into Technical, Industrial, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (TIVET)

  5. OUR SPECIFIC MANDATE The department’s mandate drives from the Vision 2030 and the Presidential Circular no. 1 of may 2008.Broadly the circular mandates the department to “Rehabilitate and expand Youth Polytechnics(YPs) and to mainstream YPs to Technical, Industrial, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training TIVET’’. The strategic objective is therefore to Develop and strengthen technical, vocational, Entrepreneurship, leadership and life skills among the youth.

  6. E LEARNING • The Department has developed a programme to enhance the mastery of E- Learning in YPs. Currently it is being implemented in 50 YPs country wide.

  7. ENHANNCING OF E – LEARNING IN YPs • Induction of fifty (50) Instructors (ToTs) in E- Learning

  11. EQUIPPING OF YPs The department has to date equipped 355 YPs with basic and specialized tools. Approximately 200 computers have been issued to the YPs.

  13. INSTRUCTOR TRAINING The Government is currently training PSC and BOG instructors on pedagogy and governance. Above is a group of instructors, sponsored by the Ministry, during graduation ceremony at KTTC.

  14. CHALLANGES • Retention of ICT Instructors • Low number of ICT trained instructors • Inadequate Hardware and Software • Lack of electricity in some Yps • Security issues in YPs e.g. theft of ICT equipment
