ANXIETY FACTS • 40 million adults which is 18% of the population suffer from anxiety • Anxiety is treatable but only 1/3 suffering receives treatment • Anxiety costs the US More than 42 billion a year • Teenagers are particularly susceptible to having irritable as a symptom of a number of emotional problems, including anxiety

ANXIETY CAUSES AND TYPES • Anxiety can be caused by a mental or a physical condition • Anemia, asthma attack, or heart conditions are examples of medical problems associated with anxiety • Types of anxiety: Panic Disorder, GenarlizedAnxiety Disorder, Phobic Disorder, Obsessive compulsive disorder, and stress disorders

  4. ANXIETY CAUSES AND TYPES • External problems can cause anxiety too ; Mainly stress • Where you get stress from: School, Work, Financial problems, Relationships, Trauma, Illness, Medication, etc • The doctor has the often difficult task of determining which symptoms come from which causes

  5. ANXIETY SYMPTOMS • Panic Disoredrer is recurrent episodes of panic attacks • Panic attacks are separate and intense periods of fear or feelings of doom developing over a very short time frame-10 minutes • Panic Attacks usually deal with the following

ANXIETY SYMPTOMS • Symptoms of Anxiety: Palpatations,Sweating, Trembling, Short Breaths, Sense of choking, Chest Pain, Dizziness, Feel ditatched from worl, Unable to think straight, Fear of Dieing, Chills or hot flashes • Exposures to fears such as Snakes, Heights, and being infront of a croud could trigger panic attacks

SELF CARE FOR ANXIETY AT HOME • People with short anxiety attacks are allowed to treat anxiety at home by themselves • Stress can be relieved by doing these: Picture yourself facing your fear, Speaking with a supportful person, meditate, watching television, relaxing by yourself, and deep breath exercises

  8. MEDICAL TREATMENT • Treatment for Anxiety depends on what type you have • For example if something physical in your body is causing you stress it could be treated with certain types of surgery • If your Anxiety is Psychological it could treated through therapy or medication

  9. MEDICAL TREATMENT • If you don’t know what is causing you stress you just try to control your symptoms • In the past, anxiety was treated with drugs in a class known as benzodiazepines. This class of medications is currently used much less often to treat anxiety due to the possibility of addicting • Sertraline (Zoloft) Paroxetine (Paxil) Fluoxetine (Prozac) Escitalopram (Lexapro) Citalopram (Celexa)

  10. PREVENTION • Maintain your physical health • Avoid Caffeine and avoid drugs with side affects of Anxiety • Relaxation • Know how to deal with stressful situations
