  8. TRACHEOTOMIA je chirurgická procedura k otevření přístupu do průdušnice a k zajištění dýchání. Tento zákrok je prováděn záchranáři, lékaři a chirurgy. Pochází z řeckého slovního základu tom-, které znamená řezat, vztahuje se k akutnímu proříznutí průdušnice (trachea). Tracheostomie pochází z řeckého slovního základu stom-, který znamená ústa, vztahuje se k permanentnímu proříznutí a stálému otvoru v dýchací trubici.
