  1. A Godly HomeFollowing God’s Wisdom

  2. Introduction • Psalm 127:1 • “Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it.”

  3. Introduction Proverbs 24:3-4 “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established. By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

  4. Introduction Proverbs 3:33 “The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the just.” Why is American society in decline?

  5. Introduction God’s wisdom is contrary to the wisdom of men, and will seem foolish to most. But along the way, and certainly in the end, we will see the fruit of His blessings. By faith we must see them now.

  6. The Home As God Designed It God’s Creation Gen. 1:26-27 – “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him;male and female He created them.” Both men & women reflect the image of God.

  7. The Home As God Designed It Created For God’s Glory Isaiah 43:7 – “Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made.”

  8. The Home As God Designed It Commanded to Fill the Earth with Godly Children Gen. 1:28 –“God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth…’” Malachi 2:15 – “He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.”

  9. The Home As God Designed It Man’s Problem Genesis 2:18 – “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”

  10. The Home As God Designed It Man Needs A Helper Help - “to surround, i.e., protect or aid… succor” (Strong) “…help has a strong implication of advance toward a goal” (Webster). Man needs a true helper – someone to work by his side to help him glorify God.

  11. The Home As God Designed It Man Needs A Helper Meet –“fit, in harmony in mood and spirit, suitable, suited to one’s needs” (Webster) God knew exactly how to meet man’s needs with one who complemented man in just the right ways.

  12. The Home As God Designed It Made from Man’s Side Why didn’t God make woman from the ground? God’s answer is in 1 Corinthians 11:7-9

  13. The Home As God Designed It 1 Corinthians 11:7-9 “woman is the glory of man. For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake.”

  14. The Home As God Designed It Made from Man’s Side Just as man’s origin fromdust shows what his God-glorifying work is centered around, so the woman’s origin fromman’s flesh shows what her God-glorifying work is centered around.

  15. The Home As God Designed It Named Her “Woman” Genesis 2:22-23 –“And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

  16. The Home As God Designed It • Named Her “Woman” • Adam received her with enthusiasm. • Adam cherished her as his own flesh. • Adam was given the right to name her, thus showing himself as her head. • Adam acknowledged her female-ness.(literally, “she-man” or “womb-man”

  17. The Home As God Designed It 1 Corinthians 11:11-12 “However, in the Lord, neither is woman independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as the woman originates from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and all things originate from God.”

  18. The Home As God Designed It One Flesh Genesis 2:24 – “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Matthew 19:6 – “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

  19. The Home As God Designed It God’s Punishments at the Fall are Related to the Woman’s and the Man’s Primary Roles. Genesis 3:16-19

  20. The Home As God Designed It Three Arguments AgainstMale Headship Today Jesus restored what was lost at the fall (Gal. 3:28).

  21. The Home As God Designed It In Affirming Man’s Role of Headship, Paul Appealed to the Order of Creation. 1 Tim. 2:12-13 1 Cor. 11:7-9

  22. The Home As God Designed It 1 Timothy 2:12-13 “But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve….”

  23. The Home As God Designed It 1 Corinthians 11:7-9 “For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake. Therefore a woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head…”

  24. The Home As God Designed It Three Arguments AgainstMale Headship Today Jesus restored what was lost at the fall (Gal. 3:28). Paul instructions were culturally-based and have no application to today.

  25. The Home As God Designed It 1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” When? Just in that culture?

  26. The Home As God Designed It Three Arguments AgainstMale Headship Today Jesus restored what was lost at the fall (Gal. 3:28). Paul instructions were culturally-based and have no application to today. Having been educated as a Pharisee, Paul was a chauvinist.

  27. Conclusion The man reflects the glory of God by subjecting himself to God as he performs his role as head of the home. The woman reflects the glory of her husband by subjecting herself to him as she performs her role as his helper.
