  3. Oracle Designer ? • So how does Oracle Designer fit in to all of this? • Developmental prototyping TOOL • Therefore useful in employing Developmental Prototyping Approach or Spiral Approach

  4. Intro to Oracle Designer • What Oracle Designer Does • “automates the development life cycle” • Generates: • Database objects • Oracle Forms and Reports applications • Documents the system • Carries information from Analysis  Design  Implementation • Central shared repository

  5. Intro to Oracle Designer • ANALYSIS • Process Models • ERD • FHD • DESIGN • Design Editor • Transformers • Database • Application • Generators • Database • Table API • Forms • Reports

  6. Intro to Oracle Designer • Oracle Designer end result: • Actual application database • Working prototypes of screens and reports • Analysis and design documentation • ERDs, process models, etc.

Logon to Oracle Designer • Distribute userids • password = fall2003 • Log into Designer, then to change your password: • Start RON • Click the Tools pulldown menu • Select SQLPlus • At the SQL> prompt, enter: alter user xxxxxx identified by yyyyyy; where xxxxxx = your userid and yyyyyy = what you want your password to be

  9. Class Process • In Class: I teach - We do • Hollywood Videos application • Individual Homework: Due the following week • Dream Getaways application • IMPORTANT CAVEAT!!! Do NOT work ahead in the Designer tool! If you aren’t careful, you can mess up your entire project and have to re-do it from the beginning (i.e., re-do your entire set of six Designer projects).
