  1. Wow! Community Service in 2 Communities: Atlanta, & Valdosta, Georgia By: Ashli Reese

  2. Fall Semester • Fall semester was a disappointment, because I was lazy and I didn’t turn in my hours. I only did one car wash and got 2 hours for that. Now that I look back on it, I wish I would have done what I needed to do.

  3. A New and Improved Semester • This semester, the things I did for community service were: Go to a Relay for Life info session in Palms Quad on January 1, 2007 for 1 hour. Go to a car wash at Sonny’s BBQ in Valdosta, GA on March 23, 2007 for 1.5 hours Go to “Community Clean-Up: Indoors and Out” in Atlanta, GA sponsored by GA Tech Human Resources Department on April 20-23, 2007 for 8 hours.

  4. Relay for Life • Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to go to the Relay for Life events on the weekend of April 13, because I went home to Atlanta to do some more community service with GA Tech. However, I did go to the info session in Palms Quad and got the American Cancer Society (ACS) representative to sign off on my hour. I also went to several events that raised money for Relay for Life such as, the boy and girls’ auctions.

  5. Did I like the Info Session? • Of course I did! I enjoyed being able to support such a great cause as cancer, because I have lost loved ones to the horrible disease.

  6. Car Wash at Sonny’s BBQ • The car wash at Sonny’s raised money for the flag football teams. I helped out washing a car, but I mostly just held the sign on the corner in the hot sun!

  7. Did I like the Car Wash? • Well, I guess it was okay, but I wasn’t too fond of the water splashing all over my clothes and getting in my hair, but since it was for a good cause, I guess it was okay. I did have fun with Tyresa when we were holding the signs.

  8. “Community Clean-Up :Indoors & Out” sponsored by GA Tech Human Resources Department • The community clean-up project was a good form of community service, because not only did it help the actual community on the outside, it helped inside as well. I helped around Mrs. Deborah Bell’s office in the Human Resources Department. I helped her with different idea for things to do with the children of the community to keep them away from violence and stay on the right path. I also had to type a one page report on what I learned from doing community service. Through Mrs. Bell I also helped with one of the biggest hip hop radio stations in Atlanta, Hot 107.9 fm.

  9. Did I have Fun with GA Tech? • Yes, I had a lot of fun! It was very good for me, because I was helping my own community since I am from Atlanta, GA. I was also glad to have worked with Mrs. Deborah Bell, who happens to be the mother of one of my closest friends. She is so nice and is always putting the needs of others before her own.

  10. Why is Community Service Important? • It is important to me, because everyone needs help sometimes. I also feel that it is such a rewarding experience, because the feeling of bringing smiles to people faces is priceless!

  11. Will I continue doing it? • More than likely, yes I will.

  12. Reasons why I enjoyed doing community service in 2 different communities: • I enjoyed helping in my hometown. • I made new friends. • I had more fun than I expected. • I learned to humble myself more, appreciate what I have, and to never take anything for granite.
