Technology • Fleet of information: geographical position, alarm notification… • Ex of system: MyBus – Intelligent Transportation System to predict bus departure times through the web • How about to move on to mobile devices? Mobile, PDA…? • Restrictions: Minimum of functionality conforming to mobile device(display, ascii..)

Web Integration • Use the existing internet protocols & standards • Sequence: - Device send a message(url) – using wap - Gateway is client, url to server- using http - server generates result to client- using http - Gateway back to device- using wap Browsing: - has wap-browser, like web-browser for url-transmission - as html, wap has wml-language(subset of html) for surfing + restrictions.

  5. MyBus: • Stimulus: stream of bus departure predictions • First was Metro King Country, Seattle, Washington • Location as timepoint (map, area with several timepoints), select, several routes listed. • Minimise display • Web site popular with requests.

  6. WAP- Browser • MyBus Wap site: necessary departure info with physical restrictions • Mechanisms • Restrictions: nr of characters, Destination string re-written. Add keys to reload and quit • Other problems: - location identification with name - location with numbers - amount of data to download Massive and increasing use
