  1. 5th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns (Sevilla, 21-24 March 2007) “Xarxa” – a Network of Municipalities towards Sustainability Moving from pioneering to mainstream • “Xarxa” is an association of municipalities commited to make progress towards sustainable development • A platform of co-operation, interchange and promotion of projects of common interest • “Xarxa” was constituted in 1997 in Manresa, where 118 municipalities signed their adhesion and approved the Declaration of Manresa – Municipalities towards Sustainability • Now, there are more than 220 local governments from the 4 provinces of Catalonia, which represents 78% of the total population in Catalonia Àrea de Medi Ambient
