The Pressing Issue • 40%of Hong Kong’s solid waste is food waste • 3,600 tonsof food waste ended up in landfill EVERYDAY Hong Kong has the HIGHEST Gini Coefficient • One in fivelive in poverty • 300,000 childrendo not have 3 meals a day • One in threeseniors do not have basic nutritional needs

  4. The Bakery Industry • Top ten chains has about 416 outlets in total • Another 2,261individual mom-and-pops stores Daily Wastage Enough to Feed many People in need

Bakery Partners • Donate unsold bakery productsdaily • Bakery products will be picked up by Food Angel’s volunteers at closing hours • Specified bakery productonly: • non-dairy: no cream or cheese • non-perishable: no meat or fish • Prepare delivery note with number of bread going to be donated. • Indemnity agreement in place

Volunteers • Each volunteer will be expected to: • pick up bakery products from 1 or 2bakery outlets (after shop close) minimum1 time per month, maximum 1 time per week - deliver to receiving partners within the same arearight away • Volunteer ID will be given for identity purpose • Training on food safety and delivery related issues will also be provided before the program • Minimum commitment period of 3 months with quarterly review • Stand by team recruit at the meantime as back-up

Volunteers Recruitment • Target Group • 8 universities • Commercial companies • Gov’t agencies • Ways to recruit • Seminar will be hold in each target group to encourage people to join • Application process to be performed right after seminar • Appreciation certificate to be given after completion of each committed period.

Receiving Partners • senior homes,homeless shelters, elderly center and community centers • Receiving partners are expected to: • receive deliveries by volunteers at late hours • acknowledge deliveries by matching actual number of bread received to the delivery note • store bakery products according to safety guidelines provided by Food Angel • consume bakery products within next day

  11. Roll-out Plan • Target to launch in 18th February 2013
