MPH Internship Overview • Final, practical experience in the OMPH program • 200 hours, 6 credits, over one ten week term • Graded pass/no pass • Term must be approved by faculty advisor • Knowledge from coursework is applied in real-world setting • Opportunity to apply existing skills, learn new ones, gain experience, reflect on learning objectives/track competencies

Internship Forms • Application and Learning Contract • Faculty Advisor Approval Form • Preceptor Signature Form • Internship Coordinator Signature Form • Request for To-Be-Arranged Course Form • Midway Progress Report • Final Student Evaluation and Summary Report • Final Preceptor Evaluation • Products developed in field

  8. How to Write Learning Objectives • Describe performance of a major cognitive skill • Begin with an action verb • Measurable • Describe intended outcome, not process • Not narrative paragraph, bullet point • Reference and build upon your Track Competencies

  9. Format • Track Competency a. Learning objective (one task per each learning objective) Example: • HMP TC #1 • HMP TC #5 • HMP TC #8 a. Develop standard measures for quality of care based on input from stakeholder interviews, literature reviews, and best practices

During-Timeline • Every two weeks send update email to Internship Coordinator • Weeks 3-4 give preceptor Midway Progress Report (due Week 5) • Week 7 give preceptor final evaluation; begin writing your summary report • Weeks 7-10 finish summary report and site evaluation (due Monday of Finals week)

  11. After-Timeline • Week 10 schedule an exit interview with Internship Coordinator, complete checklist • Send preceptor “Thank you” email/card • Schedule final oral exam with faculty advisor and committee
