  6. What will we do this year? LITERATURE Twelve full length texts Two books at once (independent/ teacher-instructed) Note-taking/reader-response Reading checks Accountable talk Literary technique and message Final course exam on literature—save notes and materials.

What will we do this year?WRITING Writing assignments: • Critical essays on literature • SAT-style writing • Narrative writing • PARCC-style writing/response to lit. • Grammar, usage, mechanics Writing as a process: • Thesis/structure instruction and conferencing • Focus correction areas • Peer and self evaluations • Outlining • Revision/skills

What will we do this year?VOCABULARY • Ten lessons from vocab book (cover book and do not write in it) • Assignments: exercises, word roots, enrichment, synonyms, antonyms, phrases and usage • Notes in class on shades of meaning (in-class) • One lesson approximately every three weeks • Quizzes on each lesson • Midterm and final exams

Procedures: • Speak to teacher about personal issues or specific situations before or after class, not during lesson. • Make sure to get to class early and bring any books we are studying and your English binder, as well as pens or pencils. • Do not bring food or snacks (if you have a specific food-related issue, please see me.) • A typical class: -Attendance -Plan for today and upcoming due dates -Warm-up/writing prompt -Main lesson(s) -Closing activity
