  1. Leamington Old Town TeamPortas Project Update for South Leamington Community Forum

  2. What we are aiming to achieve • Area Vision • Encourage filling of Empty retail Units • Improve Amenity • Include Community • Bring new customers to Old Town • Encourage people using Old Town to stay longer and shop more

  3. Progress to Goals – Vision & Retail • Filling Units: • Directly filled one unit with multi-trader offer • Working with charities and businesses to open three more by March 2014 • Of empty units when bid made: • 8 now filled (including direct fill above) with at least three more to come. • 2 further units with planning applications for full refurbishments • 3 further units to be filled from our scheme • In talks about a further 3 properties • Working in partnership with organisations seeking to make use of a creative arch. • Projects dropped and reason: • One shared office and café model – reason: fall-off in supporting finance by involved charity. • One therapy centre and green café – Reason: Excessive refurbishment costs expected by Landlord • Ceramics Hub Reason: Unable to negotiate approprate rent with WDC

  4. Progress to Goals - Amenity • Amenity improvement • Considering a strategy to involve traditional sign-writers in supported projects • Christmas Lights – first new lights for 12 years – five year minimum life • Continuing conversations with Network Rail re use of infrastructure

  5. Progress to Goals – Community Involvement and Browsing Behaviour • Improved community involvement, new customers and new traders • Regular markets – 6 night markets in October/November • Brought New Traders to Old Town • Three new businesses had first trades at the events • Brought new customers to Old Town (footfall similar to Saturday trading footfall, but into the evening at a time trade normally drops) • Passing footfall stayed and viewed stalls, typically for 30-40 minutes. • Craft and participation workshops • ArtsHub (Canalside, Clemens Street) • Dombey and Daughter (26 High Street)

  6. Dombey & Daughter • A shared trading space in the Old Town for local artists and makers • Led by a participating trader supported by the Princes Trust, mentored by award winning businesswoman (Mickey Rose from ‘The Green Apple’ online retailer and others), in partnership with a new brand skincare company (Manby and Hall.
