  1. AMERICAN YOUTHWORKS Green Jobs Training & Education Center American YouthWorks (AYW) is a nonprofit Green Jobs Training and Education Center located in Austin, Texas. AYW operates a comprehensive program providing education, jobs training, and social services to transform the lives of youth and adults. AYW creates a holistic opportunity for individuals to acquire the life skills needed to succeed in the new, green economy. Committed to conservation, community revitalization and education, American YouthWorks offers: The GREEN JOBS TRAINING CENTER is a U. S. Department of Commerce investment retrofit of the AYW building to provide onsite green jobs training and technical certification in areas such as solar panel installation, wind turbine technology, energy efficiency building maintenance, fire control certification, HVAC technology and several other green business specialties. (LEED GOLD retrofit underway, complete 9/2009) www.americanyouthworks.org

AMERICAN YOUTHWORKS CORPS AND GREEN JOBS TRAINING PROGRAMS CASA VERDE BUILDERS trains recovered dropouts and court involved young people to build energy-efficient, affordable housing and awards students with industry-recognized certificates. ENVIRONMENTAL CORPS leads conservation crews to the urban and rural areas of Texas and states bordering Texas to build parks and trails for the betterment of the environment. COMPUTER CORPS trainsmembers recycle computers for distribution to low-income and elderly citizens. WATER CORPS trains members to test water quality, clean waterways and perform watershed demonstrations at area schools. BIKE CORPS’ members learn about fitness, bicycle commuting and bicycle maintenance. KINDER CORPS’ parents share parenting knowledge, develop healthy lifestyles, hone English skills and practice math skills by developing family budgets. FILM CORPS’ members learn how to relate English, math and science to A/V technology and communications. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT AMERICAN YOUTHWORKS By the numbers… According to a community development study on AYW’s impact by Angelou Economics, an investment of $7,435,000 could rescue 100 youths from dropping out, a savings to society of $42,000,000 According to a 2007 report from the University of Vanderbilt, saving just ONE high risk youth from a life of crime, drugs, and marginality can save society $4.3 to $7.7 million dollars.
