Organization We are a not-for-profit organization able to provide several new services for the community, including open-heart surgery, a Level II neonatal intermediate care unit and enhanced cancer services.   4. Organizational Challenges • The traditional structure in healthcare is being challenged from every direction. • Customer demands mean organizations must respond faster. • New technology provides both challenges and opportunities. • Competition has an ever increasing global dimension

  5. Emergency Medicine: Emergency Departments provide expert treatment for adults and children. Triage is a brief clinical assessment that determines the time and sequence in which patients should be seen in the ED or, if in the field, the speed of transport and choice of hospital destination. Cancer Services: Structure and Processes; Physical Aspects of Care; Psychological and Psychiatric Aspects of Care; Social Aspects of Care; Spiritual, Religious and Existential Aspects of Care; Cultural Aspects of Care; Care of the Imminently Dying Patient; and Ethical and Legal Aspects of Care. Management Oversight

Human Resources • Managers need to provide structure for organizing and ensuring delivery of specific strategies developed in line with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization. • Ensure fair and equitable workloads, scheduling flexibility, competitive compensation, recruitment/retention programs. • Managers will serve as role models, set priorities, and set improvement goals/standards

  7. Communication • Leadership oversight will include: • Safety/Security • Staff Education & Development • Goal Setting • Budget/Financial planning • Monthly department meetings with staff

Emergency Department • Emergency departments in public hospitals save lives and prevent serious disabilities. • Emergency departments are primarily set up to help people who are experiencing a medical emergency that is life threatening or could cause serious disability. For a variety of reasons, they can also treat a range of other patients. But everyone understands that the priority is to treat patients who have the most urgent medical needs.

  11. Quality Indicators • Oversight and implementation of unit based clinical quality indicators • 100% compliance on all indicators in chart review process • 95% of all customers give rating of above average to outstanding in their overall satisfaction of department.
