  1. Victoria Hatchett Braden Chapman arthropods Colleen Noland Nick Schell

  2. Characteristics • Have an exoskeleton • Have segmented bodies • Invertebrates • Reproduce sexually and asexually • Almost all lay eggs • Heterotrophic • Varying species live in air, land, and water • Complex organisms • Mobile (able to move)

  3. Diagrams of Subphyla Arthropods are divided into 3 categories : insects, arachnids, and crustaceans

  4. Fun Facts • - Each year insects eat 1/3 of the worlds crops. • There are 11 million species of arthropods. • Ants don’t sleep. • A bedbug can survive up to one year without feeding • Scorpions hatch from eggs, but mother scorpions can also give live birth

  5. Examples - Shrimp are omnivores that will eat anything from dead to decaying plants or animals to plankton algae and other decaying materials. Some species live in fresh water while others live in salt water. Shrimp are often put into aquariums to clean up algae. - Most spiders are carnivores who feed on other insects and spiders. However, some spiders are omnivores or herbivores, like the Bogeera Kipling who feeds on acaia trees in Central America. - Ticks are very small insects that suck on the blood of other animals to survive. They have sharp mouths used to bury into the skin and cling there. They are round shaped and can lay up to 10,000 eggs!
