  2. Description: An FAA and European Commission public private partnership to hasten implementation of new technologies and procedures to reduce emissions in all phases of flight, gate-to- gate.

  3. Key Players: • FAA, European Commission • Program introduced at the Paris air show, June 2007 • SESAR Joint Undertaking • (Single European Skies ATM Research) • AIRE Partners

  4. AIRE Objectives: • Promote Interoperability • Promote worldwide interoperability of new technology, procedures and standards • Validate environmental improvements • Validate projected environmental improvements with flight trials and demonstrations • Capitalize on technology • Capitalize on existing technologies on both sides of the Atlantic • Highlight challenges • Highlight challenges to implementation and recommend solutions • Support implementation • Support the preparation of implementation timelines, safety case, and business case.

FAA AIRE Team Structure • Surface Domain – Tom Prevost • Oceanic Domain – Thien Ngo • Arrivals Domain: • Tailored Arrivals (TA) – Marc Buntin • Continuous Descent Arrivals (CDA) – Jim Arrighi • CDA being renamed to Optimized Profile Descents (OPD) • Metrics lead – Sandy Liu • SWIM Coordination POC – Eric Helfers

  6. Accomplishments To Date • Program Plan distributed January 2008 • Collaboration established with SESAR Joint Undertaking • FY 08 demonstrations conducted: • Oceanic • CDAs • TA • Established infrastructure for Surface Demonstrations at JFK and MEM

  7. Future Plans • FY-09: Expand Partnership • Initiated CDA Demonstration with DOD at CHS • Include more European carriers and locations • Focus demos on coordination between domains • FY-10: Conduct International Gate-to Gate Demo • Surface Management • Departure Optimization • Oceanic TBO • Arrival • Surface Management
