  4. IS Description Interenterprise Information System • “The portal”- scheduling, hiring program(teledo), esteem(background check) • Financials- quarterly sales per store, ytd. • HR documents, planners, planograms/schematics, email.

Identify The Problem • No online purchases except prepaid phones • Shipping of goods was decentralized, each distribution center worked with vendors. • This led to increased shipping expenses and an inability to see the network as a whole. • They are lagging behind as far as the industry is concerned.

IS Strategy • In the year 2000 they began searching for a transportation management system. • Implemented G-log’s GC3 system • The system was initially hosted on G-logs sever and later transferred to an “In house” system at Family Dollar Corporate • They exceeded their goals for savings from 2003 and forward. • They plan to continue to research emerging technologies

  8. IS Evaluation • Family Dollar has taken steps in the right direction • The new information systems they implemented have increased efficiency • They are lagging behind as far as the industry is concerned. • Dollar Tree as well as other competitors already have operational retail websites
