BRIEF ACCOUNT OF THE DESTRUCTION OF THE INDIES • Date of Document- 1542 • At this time I assumed that they killed more people than what they said in the document. • Big Question?- The document helps answer our big question because everything wasn’t good especially, with the Spaniards massacring the Native Americans • The evidence and the details of the massacre made me think that the author was really there.

  5. Here’s some information for you • He was one of the first Franciscan missionaries to Mexico. Most of the people died so their population went down. They died in heaps ,like bedbugs and many died from starvation • The author was very reliable. He gave me more information to add to I know. I believed him because he was a religious man and therefore I don’t think he would have lied.

  6. The document • The document relates to our big question because the discovery of the Americas was not all good. The Native people started to get very sick they had smallpox and they where staving which causing them to die. • The year the document was written in 1570 by Toribio de Motolinia

The purpose of the document was to show how the discovery of America affected the world around that time. The effect was a drop in population while Asia and Europe’s population increased The document is a secondary source.

  9. Our Big Question Was the discovery of the Americas all good? What were some of the drawbacks? The discovery wasn’t all good. It helped the rest of the world but left the Americas in the dirt. Europe brought diseases to America, causing its decrease in population.

Document Analysis • In 1533, the Spanish official Castaneda wrote to the king about his concern for the Native Americans in his territory. • He was somewhat reliable because he lived in that time period so he serves as a primary source. • The document tells us that the “discovery” of the Americas wasn’t all good because the Native Americans died because of being overworked and dying of diseases unknown to them
