  1. Le passé composé des verbesreguliers

  2. How does one speak in the past tense in French?

  3. To conjugate most verbs in the past tense, you use the verb avoir conjugated in the present tense plus a past participle. Example: Present tense I am talking on the telephone now. Je parle au téléphonemaintenant. Past tense I talked on the telephone yesterday. J’aiparléau téléphonehier. Avoir past participle of parler

  4. The past tense in French is called the passé composé. To create the passé composé, you must use avoir in the present and add the past participle of the verb that is the action. Avoir au présent J’ai nous avons Tu as vous avez + past participle= passé Il a ils ont composé Elle a elles ont On a

  5. What is the past participle of a verb? A past participle is a form of a verb that is used to form the past tense or passé composé.

  6. There are rules for creating regular past participles. 1.For –er verbs: Drop the-er and add é. Parler= parlé jouer= joué regarder= regardé

  7. 2.For –ir verbs, drop the –ir and add i. Choisir= choisifinir=finidormir= dormi

  8. 3.For –re verbs, drop the –re and add u. Perdre= perdu vendre= vendu rendre= rendu

  9. How to form the passé composé To form the passé composé, you use the correct conjugation of avoir and add the past participle of th everb that expresses the action that was performed. Pierre a jouéle foot la dernière semaine. (Pierre played football last week.) Nous avons choisi un chiot hier. (We chose a puppy yesterday. )

  10. Les autresexemples du passé composé J’ai regardéla télé hier soir. Tu as perdu ton stylo? Mes amis ont regardéle Final Four hier soir. Leur équip a perdu le jeu de basket . Nous avons ecoutébien a Mme. Cook pendant le cours ce matin. L’arbitre a sifflé beaucoup pendant le jeu de foot.

  11. To make the verb negative in the passé composé, you use ne….pas. You make the helping verb negative, not the past participle. To do this put the ne in front of avoir and pas after avoir. The past participle is then outside the negative verb phrase. Negative Je n’aipasregardé la télé hiersoir.

  12. More examples of passe compose in the negative Tu n’as pas perdu ton stylo? Mes amis n’ont pas regardéle Final Four hier soir. Leur équip n’a pas perdu le jeu de basket .
