Biodiversity targets Globally and nationally, fell short of reaching 2010 target to reduce the rate of biodiversity loss UN Convention on Biological Diversity held at Nagoya, Japan, Autumn 2010 agreed new Aichi targets In 2011, the UK National Ecosystem Assessment examined economic and social value of biodiversity Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership

Aichi Targets 20 targets set – 2 examples: Target 5 – Habitat loss: By 2020, the rate of loss of all natural habitats is at least halved Target 11 – Protected areas: By 2020, at least 17 % of terrestrial and inland water, are conserved and effectively managed, and integrated into the wider landscape Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership

LBAP Work LBAP – original development in 2001 All Action Plans written by 2005 60 partner organisations involved By 2010, many targets achieved and plans needed updating 2012 – 14: Revision of 41 plans achieved by lead partners and Ruth Moffatt Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership

Process • Priority habitats reviewed • Removed achieved actions • Aimed to get actions with targets, specific and measurable • Identified key needs and opportunities with lead partners • Used targets developed for Regional Spatial Strategy from detailed report Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership

  8. Examples of Objectives To restore 27ha of degraded lowland calcareous grassland by 2026 To increase the breeding range of lapwing to its 1988-91 level. To restore 142 degraded pond sites by 2026 Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership
