  4. France had been too busy with wars in Europe to worry about colonies in North America.

  5. King Francis I • The French King eventually grew jealous of the other countries and sent his own ships to N.A.

  6. He chose an explorer called Jacques Cartier to find a shortcut through North America to Asia.

  7. Jacques Cartier never did find a way to Asia but he did explore current day Nfld, NS, NB, and Quebec.

  8. He claimed these lands for France and called it Canada.
