  1. Ever wonder how your life differs from your grandparents or parents? Maybe not but… Let’s take lookanyway

  2. All girls wore ugly gym uniforms

  3. The TV took 5 minutes to warm up

  4. Nearly everyone’s mom was home when kids got home from school

  5. No one owned a purebred dog

  6. A quarter was decent allowance

  7. You’d reach in a muddy gutter for a penny

  8. Your mom wore nylons that came in 2 pieces

  9. You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped without asking, all for free AND you only paid 29 cents a gallon in the 50’s

  10. Well paid dads brought home $600 a month (1950’s)

  11. There were “PARTY” lines on the Home telephone (Everyone had a home phone or no phone at all) • No one had a private line • You’d pick up the phone & make sure your neighbor wasn’t talking. (The “original” conference call) • There was NO call waiting

  12. The men teachers wore ties every day and the women teachers were required to wear dresses every day.

  13. Laundry detergent had FREE glasses, dishes, or towels hidden inside the box as a prize.

  14. They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed (and they did)

  15. Nobody asked for the car keys because they were always in the car ignition and the car doors were never locked

  16. Kids would lie on the grass, look up, and say“That cloud looks like…”

  17. Things came from the store without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had been poisoned yet

  18. Back when the only weapons found at school was a SLING SHOT

  19. Being sent to the principal’s office was NOTHING compared to the fate that awaited when you got home from school

  20. They ACTUALLY sold….

  22. Glass Bottles in Soda Machines

  24. What about Cars & Gas?? • A Cadillac in the 50’s = $5,000 • NOW = $60,000 plus • Gas in the Mid 1960’s = $0.33 a gallon • NOW = $2.20 a gallon

  25. AND TheseDIDN’T EVEN EXISTin everyday homes • Microwaves • OMG..How would you make popcorn?? • Personal Computers • Handheld Cell Phones • The first were in a bag & weighted 3 lbs. • Cassette tapes • VHS, CD, DVD • What… No movie or video game rentals???

Color TV • Most families had black & white TVs • Cable & Satellite TV • In the 1950’s, the DFW area had 3 channels (people used rabbit ear antennas to pick up the signal) • Surround Sound – Home Entertainment – • No, they had record players • Xbox, Nintendo, Home Video Games • None! • Digital clock radios • No – wind up alarm clocks • Central Air & Heating.. • Ahh! swamp coolers • Car air conditioning • Two car windows and the wind!

  27. NO • I-anything (IPOD, MP3, etc.) • Text messages • Coffee makers Life has changed fast in 40 years…. Now, can you imagine what things will change in the next 40 years? HOW WILL YOU CHANGE?
