  2. Climate of Europe • Europe's climate is generally moderate, which probably explains its population density and early development. • Without a large land mass to the north, winds in winter don't push extremely cold air into the continent as they do in the US or Asia. Europe is also, on average, drier than the US.

  3. European Culture • Article 151 of the Treaty stipulates that the Community must support and supplement action by the Member States in order to conserve and safeguard cultural heritage of European significance. • Since then, the Community has taken action with regard to movable and immovable heritage (museums, collections, libraries and archives); archaeological and architectural heritage; natural heritage (landscapes and sites of natural interest); linguistic and gastronomic heritage, and traditional occupations.

  4. Famous Cities • Amsterdam has 730,000 citizens. • Andorra la Vella has 16,000 citizens. • Ankara has 2,900,000 citizens

Land Forms • Alps are located in south-central Europe, they extend for almost 700 miles in a crescent shape from the coastline of southern France (near Monaco) into Switzerland northern Italy and Austria, then southeast through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Yugoslavia) as the (Dinaric Alps). • APENNINESThe source of almost all rivers in Italy including the Arno, Tiber, and Volturno, the Apennines Mountains (Ital. Appennino) 830 miles (1,350km) in length, form the backbone of the country, and run the entire length of the Italian Peninsula, ending on the island of Sicily.

Europe’s History • Greco-Roman civilizations dominated Classical antiquity, starting with the reappearance of writing in Ancient Greece at around 700 BC, generally considered to be the seminal culture which provided the foundation of Western civilization and immensely influential on language, politics, educational systems, philosophy, science and the arts. • After a period of civil wars, emperor Constantine I shifted the capital from Rome to the Greek town Byzantium in 313, then renamed Constantinople (modern Istanbul), having legalized Christianity.

  7. Facts about Amsterdam • Although the seat of Netherlands government is in The Hague, Amsterdam is the nominal capital. It is also the country's largest city, with a population of more than 750,000, and the most visited, with over 3,5 million foreign visitors a year. • The Netherlands is a country situated in Western Europe, bordering Belgium to the south and Germany to the east.

  8. Facts about Andorra la Vella • Andorra la Vella is nestled high in the east Pyrenees. It is well ensconced between France and Spain. Andorra la Vella is the capital of the co-principality of Andorra. • Andorra la Vella is 3 hours drive from the nearest airports of the region. These include Toulouse, Girona, Perpignan and Barcelona.

  9. Facts about Ankara • Ankara is the capital of Turkey and the country's second largest city after Istanbul. The city has a population over 4 million people. It was formerly known as Angora. • As with many ancient cities, Ankara has gone by several names over the ages: The Hittites gave it the name Ankuwash before 1200 BC.The Galatians and Romans called it Ancyra.
