  1. English III Honors Mrs. Spriggs

  2. Keeping in Touch • SPAN- The entire school is unable to post grades on SPAN at this time. We hope this issue is resolved by the beginning of next week. • Mrs. Spriggs’ Calendar and Web Page

  3. Daily Schedule -Bell Ringer/Journal-Students have 10 minutes to write a response to a journal that relates to our unit of study. Journals are collected every 10 entries. Worth 100 Points. -Word Parts: In preparation for the SAT and ACT, we write down five word parts per day. We have a test after each set of 25 word parts. I strongly recommend that students sign up for an SAT date at the end of the semester. Many students have said that their scores rose significantly after our study of Word Parts.

  4. Daily Schedule Cont. • Literature Study • Online Message Board and Blogs (Common Core)

  5. Books • We are currently reading The Scarlet Letter; our unit test is Monday. We will have a paideia discussion on Tuesday. Students can bring snacks for the class. No products containing nuts of any kind. • We will also read Huck Finn, The Crucible, The Catcher in the Rye, Of Mice and Men, The Great Gatsby, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and various selections from the text. All novels are available at GHHS. Additionally, I will always try to include links for online texts and free audio recordings. Students may want to purchase their own copy of Of Mice and Men because our copies are quite ragged .

  6. Research Paper • We will complete a three page research paper during the 2nd quarter. The topic will be a controversial issue that relates to American Society. • We will complete the majority of the research, planning, and typing in class (dependent upon on computer lab availability)

  7. Classroom Needs • White Athletic Socks (Crucible Puppets) • Fabric scraps/ribbon (Crucible Puppet Project) • Glue gun sticks (small size) • Lysol wipes • Soft Kleenex
