  1. ACTION FOR TOMORROW

  2. INTRODUCTION The Greek partnership “Action for Tomorrow” proposes the study and the application of practices whose aim is achieving permanent and effective employability. But, in which way could we achieve this result? One solution is to create new types of professions by the aid of which the employees will be able to obtain long-term employment with flexible timetables. The target groups are persons from social groups such as women, the long-term unemployed, the unemployed who are more than 45 years old, persons with limited technical skills e.t.c. These persons will receive training in new technologies and in the domain of new production methods. The new types of jobs refer to the environment in its larger sense. They are not only the professions, which are closely related to nature, but, among them, there exist also professions related to the construction sector and the conservation of the national heritage. Before we present the Greek action, we must present the terminology that we will use in order to describe the proposed new types of jobs and employability. We say that we aim at ” sustainable development “. In Greek there is the term «αειφόροςανάπτυξη». The word «αειφόρος» contains the adverb «αεί» whose meaning is “always” like in the expression «νυνκαιαεί» that means “for ever and ever”. The second constituent of the word «αειφορία» is «-φορία» and it derives from the French expression “rapport soutenu”. In forestry, there is the Greek word «αειφορία» which is a principle according to which the same amounts of forest goods are produced annually or periodically. In the same way, the expression «αειφόροςαπασχολησιμότητα» (“sustainable development”) is the kind of employability that we aim at. In the work sector, the “viable employability” is the kind of continuously developed employability. Finally, we mention the term «viable professions» («πράσιναεπαγγέλματα») which are the new types of professions envisaged.

  3. CENTRAL PROBLEM THAT THE PROJECT IS CALLED UPON TO FACE The contemporary term of “Sustainable Development” includes 3 parameters: the social, economic and environmental ones. The social parameter is directly connected with development, employability expansion and its safeguarding. The Lisbon Conference also recognizes the importance of Sustainable Employability as a central aim of the Social Aspect of Economic Viability. Taking this under account, the Developmental Partnership “Action for Tomorrow” aims at the organization of productivity through the development of a new category of professions: the “sustainable professions”. These professions address a wide range of employees (women, unemployed, low-qualified adults, sensitive social groups). Following the appropriate vocational training, education and adjustment to new technology standards, these groups will be able to ensure their employability as well as some flexibility in their timetables and the organization of their productive activities. Therefore, the “sustainable professions” place great emphasis to voluntarism and working for the social good. There are not only the employees that take advantage of the usefulness of the sustainable professions but also the enterprises, which thus achieve viable growth.

  4. PARTNERS OF THE DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP The Development Partnership “Action for Tomorrow” includes members that cover a wide social range. Those are: • The non-governmental organization “Programs of Volunteer Work for the Environment” (PEEP) • The National Centre of Social Research (EKKE) • Marathonios Anaptixiaki SA: a trans-municipal development company that represents 9 municipalities and communities of the wider region of Eastern Attica • Econometrica Ltd: a consultancy firm specialized in the field of European funded programs • The European Center of Environmental Research and Training of the Pantion University of Athens (EKEPEK) • The National Institution of Youth Centre of Vocational Training (KEK EIN) • The national newspaper Apogevmatini Publications SA
