  1. Levels of Ecology Biomes

  2. What Exactly is a Biome? • A biome is a major ecosystem determined by climate and biology. • What determines Climate? • What determines the “Biology” of an area?  Temperature and Precipitation Plants (flora) and Animals (fauna)

  3. Factors Affecting Climate • What are some factors that affect the temperature of an area? • Tilt of the Earth • Location to a body of water • latitude • altitude

  4. What are some factors that affect the precipitation of an area?  Windward and leeward positioning. The windward side is the side of an area subject to the prevailing wind, and is the wetter side.  Proximity to a body of water  Altitude

  5. Windward vs Leeward

  6. Microclimates • biomes also may have microclimates. • A microclimate is a zone where the climate differs from the surrounding area. • examples:  Oasis in a desert.
