  2. What is it? • An eye condition characterized by irregular curvature of the cornea

  3. What causes it? • Caused by the lens and cornea not being perfectly symmetrical • The cornea or lens have an irregular shap such a the shape of a football • Can ne hereditary • Also caused by bad posture & increased use of the eye

  4. Effects of Astigmatisms • Loss of focus • Causes difference of power in eye along the meridians

  5. Astigmatisms • Anyone can have them • Mild astigmatisms may have no symptoms • More severe symptoms include: • Headaches • Eye strain or fatigue • Squinting • Blurred vision at all distances • Holding reading material closer than normal

  6. Treatment • Astigmatisms can be treated with glasses or contacts • No treatment is needed for many mild astigmatisms
