  2. Skills Funding Agency context Purpose: To fund skills training for FE in England Size of the task: 1000 providers, £4.3bn Shape of the task: An expert national service tailored to support local needs Customers: Consumers (learners & Employers), LEPs, Government

  3. 5 strategic objectives • More High Quality Apprenticeships and traineeships • Policy into practice • Financial assurance - £4.3bn • Local priorities – learners, employers, LEPs • Excellent performance through people

  4. Business Imperatives • Embed reform – executive agency status • Supply Chain transformation • Qualification reform

  5. 1) Apprenticeships & Traineeships • Increase number of apprenticeships • - especially : 16-24, Highers, SMEs, sectors • Support apprenticeship reform • More high quality traineeships • NAS – employer facing service offer - brand

  6. 2) Policy into Practice • Design & deliver funding systems • Employer routed funding – apprenticeship reform • Support increase in 24+ advanced learning loan activity with SLC • Supporting & managing intervention – FE Commissioner, structure and prospects appraisals etc

  7. 3) Financial Assurance • Budget management – less than 1% • Financial irregularity – recover funds • Assess/Monitor financial stability sector (intervene as necessary) • Audit – NAO • Manage ESF to 2% tolerance - £1.6bn

  8. 4) Support local priorities, individuals, employers • Raise awareness of the careers service offer • Deliver high quality value for money digital offer (AV and NCS) • User satisfaction in the AV system • LEPs – ESIF and Capital

  9. 5) Performance through People • Civil Service people survey • Performance management of staff • People Plan • Pay & Reward

  10. Reform and the Area role • 925 staff – rebalanced by division • 6 + 1 areas • LEP footprint • Central Area – 25 staff
