  1. The Plank It’s not as simple as it looks...

  2. How Plank Impacts your Body… Live Load Dead Load Resistance of the dead load of your body exercises your core very well.

  3. Scientifically Speaking… • Similar to a beam bridge, the supports are at your feet and your arms. However, your stomach is like the bridge span. • It is constantly affected by gravity and sags. • However, when you try to hold your body straight, your core resists against the dead load of your body weight and your abs are tensed to try to keep you up longer, exercising them very well. • Your back is compressed if your core is tensed, again like a beam bridge, exercising your back muscles.

  4. A Comparison… I’M ABTASTIC! This guy probably does not do plank in his spare time… This guy does plank for a living…

  5. Our Theorem • Like a beam bridge, the farther away the supports are, the weaker the span. • Therefore, the taller you are, the harder it is to do the plank. • Your arm and legs are the only things supporting your body, and the taller you are, the farther apart they are and it is therefore harder to hold plank position.

  6. Our Theorem Cont. • This graph shows that the shorter people held plank longer.

  7. In all Grades… • Whichever gender was taller held the plank for less time (e.g. Abhiramv.s. Blythe : Blythe held her second run longer than Josh.)

  8. Vitamins • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Helps convert blood sugar into energy. Essential for muscular, cardiovascular, and neurological functions. Obtained from whole wheat bread, cereals, pork, etc.

  9. More Vitamins • Vitamin K: Helps for blood clotting and healing wounds. Found in beef and leafy green veggies.

  10. Vitamins Cont. • Vitamin E: Helps neutralize body radicals that cause tissue and cell damage Improves wound healing Found in egg yolk, margarine and wheat germ and whole grain and avocado

  11. Vitamins Cont. • Vitamin D: Helps store and produce bodily calcium and supports muscle and nerve function Found in eggs and fortified milk

  12. More Vitamins Cont. • Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Helps heal wounded and aching tissue. Helps body absorb iron and promotes healthy immune system Obtained from oranges and other citric foods. Sorry, but this orange won’t give you any Vitamin C…

  13. Now For Some Fun… • This Person has become invincible from doing plank…Well, almost…

  14. Adam the Apple Says… • Not this one… Well, you actually won’t, because plank targets your abs! Hey kids! Hold the plank for 2 minutes and you’ll be as buff as this apple!
