  1. A Peaceful Warrior Martin Luther King, Jr.

  2. Martin was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. At this time in the South, life was not fair to black people. It was hard for Martin.

  3. Martin became a Baptist minister. Later he got a Ph.D. from Boston University in Massachusetts. He married Coretta Scott. He had 4 children.

  4. He was a great speaker and wanted prejudice to end. He worked for equality for all. He was called names and worse! But that didn’t stop him because he believed in what he was doing.

  5. He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott which eventually led to many changes.

  6. Like Gandhi, he believed in Non-Violence. He led a March on Washington, D.C. in August of 1963. He gave his famous speech: I HAVE A DREAM “I have a dream that my 4 children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…”

  7. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

  8. Many things in Martin’s life were hard. He got attacked, he went to jail, his house got bombed. But he kept on working. He wanted to break the chains of injustice.

  9. Martin was killed on April 4, 1968.

  10. The U.S. celebrates his life and work with a national holiday in January of every year.

  11. Our country and really the whole world would not be as respectful if Martin had not been so brave and committed. Many people would still be treated unfairly.

  12. I can see the changes he brought all around me every day. I can learn from his life and continue his work by being fair to others, believing in my dreams and not giving up.
