  2. What we will be looking at today is… • Computer aided design and computer aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) • Pre-manufactured components • Labelling and advertising in textiles • Practical demonstration with our own CAD/CAM sewing machine!!!

  3. What do we already know about the following? • Batch Production • Mass Production • Job (one off production) • Bespoke

  4. What is CAD/CAM? • Computer aided design and manufacture is a big factor in textiles manufacture • Look at the following clips and make notes on the process involved – * Think about the importance of quality control, the way items are produced (batch/mass production/one off etc)

  5. Pre-manufactured Components! List as many examples as you can think of that could be classified as pre-manufactured components * Hint – think about what we did for our product analysis, what do you insert or put onto clothing?

  6. Pre manufactured components that could be used for all clothing purposes

  7. Pre manufactured components that could be used for outdoor protective clothing

  9. Care Labels We need to include these on all textiles to ensure that the customer knows how to best look after and care for their purchase. They often provide washing guidelines to follow * You will need to ensure that you know what the different symbols been

  10. Information labels • The British Kite Mark is and industry recognised safety label that is featured on all soft toys and textiles around the home. Other examples include fire resistant fabric and highly flammable etc.
