Deployed War-Fighter Protection ProgramCompetitive Grants FY04-10 • 6th Year for DWFP (195 pre-proposals, 70 Full, 38 grants given, ~$8M) • PIs: Academia-15, Industry-11, Military Entomologists-12; CDC, IR-4, NECE • Target mosquitoes, phlebotomines, other flies and general vectors • Yielded projects, techniques and products for: • Dengue vector control • Combating sand flies and their rodent hosts • Deployable spraying systems • Improvements of space and deposition sprays • Comparative risk analyses • Sand Fly Control Techniques • Attractant Toxic Sugar Baits (ATSBs) • Novel repellents/insecticides, including specific molecular pesticides

DWFP Accomplishment (See AFPMP DWFP Website) • New products in National Stock System • Sprayers, Pesticides, Fly Traps • >160 publications in 6 years • Numerous new application techniques • Scientific specs of spray equipment • Multiple patents/applications (11); Invention disclosures (2) • GenBank accessions (3+) • IR4 agreement to expedite PH pesticides

  5. DWFP is an initiative to develop and validate novel methods to protect US military deployed abroad from threats posed by disease-carrying insects.
