  3. Abstract Expressionism • Abstract – to simplify or something simplified. • Expression – a presentation of ones emotions, ideas, or other. Abstract Expressionism – the simplified result of your emotions or ideas as a work of art.

  4. Principles of Design project Goal: Create a work of art that is in the style of Abstract Expressionism and Hans Hoffman. Remember the following things. • Emphasis: there should be a clear focal point. • Movement: the shapes lines and colors should create pathways to the emphasis. • Rhythm: the repetition of shapes should aid in the movement and the unity of the over all work. • Variety: there should be enough different shapes, textures and colors to keep the viewer engaged. • Unity: even though the shapes colors and textures are different keep some similarities throughout the picture so that it holds together
