Change Weights Options • Category and Assignment Weighting • Instructor specifies numerical weight for each category • Category weights are fixed for the entire course • Overall course averages will not be correct until the end of the course • Assignment Weighting Only • Category weights are not used (grayed-out) • This method is recommended

  25. Change Weights Options -- Comparison CALCULATION DETAILS: CAW = .25(.80) + .60(.70) + .15(1.00) = .20 + .42 + .15 = .77 = 77% AWO = (8 + 70 + 5) / (10 + 100 + 5) = 83 / 115 = .72 = 72%

  26. Change Weights Clarifying Example • Consider the Homework 2.1 assignment shown earlier • This assignment has 20 problems • Each problem has a value of 1 point • This homework assignment has a value of 8 points • Note that the problem value points and assignment value points are not equal • This course has a total of 278 points for homework assignments • This course has a total of 1000 points. • Homework assignments count for 27.8% of the final course grade • Homework assignment 2.1 counts for 0.8% of the final course grade
