  2. What is the Goal of the Advanced Placement Program at your school? • Please refer to your Edmodo site and submit your thoughts

What are “The BIG Four” when looking to Increase Student Success in Advanced Courses? • Expectations throughout K-12 • Increased Rigor and Support • Advanced Course work needs to become more imbedded within everyone’s thought • All students should be held to high expectations • **Students Should be Involved in a productive struggle**

Professional Development • Begin the discussion between schools about Vertical teaming • Plan for vertical teaming with the ELA/Math/Sci/SS teachers who teach AP with those that do not at various grade levels. • Using Data to Drive the Design of your Advanced Placement Program • Professional Development on “How to Answer” the following for teachers in Grades 6-11: • DBQ (document based Question) • LBQ (literacy based Question) • RBQ (research based Question)

  5. Training for all AP Teachers on a rotating schedule • Literacy Training for teams of teachers especially middle and high school teachers

Vertical Experiences • Set the stage early • Begin in the Elementary schools and utilized those professionals that can assist with differentiation • Use higher Order Questioning • Increase Engagement in subject matter • Alignment of Curriculum • Begin using Walk throughs for k-12 (allows for connections to be seen) • Implement Lesson studies at the school (between teachers)

  7. IV. Communication and Collaboration • Horizontal and Vertical Teaming (District and School) • Multiple Stakeholders • Create PLC to discuss strategies (school or district) • Have an Advanced Studies Learning Night • Have subject area chairs meet from grades 6-12 in feeder schools.

  8. How Can We Build an Effective AP Program at Our School? • -What are our goals for Advanced Placement? Why? • -What Strategies can we use to accomplish these goals? • -How can/do we create buy in from everyone at the school? • -What data can be monitored to determine effectiveness? • -Who will monitor this data? • -Who can help reflect on the effectiveness of your program?

  9. Teacher Characteristics and Practices and the effect they have on student AP Exam Performance. • What should the Characteristics of an Instructor in an Advanced Placement Class be? • 2. What should the learning environment look like (school context)? • 3. What does the teacher have control over in their AP program and what does the teacher not have control of ? • 4. What does the content coverage look like in the Advanced Placement Classroom look like? • 5. What test specific Instructional Practices would you expect to observe in an AP classroom?
