  1. Welcome to the Year 3 Parent Presentation 6th September 2012 5 pm

  3. The main goal of this evening is to go over and clarify a variety of important areas which should help you to have a better understanding of Year 3.

  4. Year 3 TimetableMonday– PE kits to be worn all day (3B)Tuesday– PE kits to be worn all day (3T/ 3M)Wednesday Games: All Year 3 children wear PE kit all dayFriday - PE kits to be worn all day (3K only)Library– students can change books during the week – before school and lunch break. Children are expected to bring their diaries in their book bags everyday. Diaries must be signed by parents weekly.Any change to the end of day routine must be recorded in your child’s diary (WALKERS NOTES)

Year 3 Approach • Inquiry–based approach to learning (Development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside, is a framework guided by 6 themes of global significance.) • Children have individual needs and are at varying places in their learning and development • Learning is not a competition or a race • Develop greater independence alongside group and social skills and awareness • ICT is used throughout all curriculum areas • The core curriculum areas are: Maths – English – Inquiry - Chinese

Inquiry • Term 1: • Central ideas: • Inquiry 1 • Choices we make can affect our health • Inquiry 2 • Science exploration helps us to understand our world. • To support your child in curriculum areas, please regularly refer to the Year 3 section of ‘The Buzz’. • This term’s inquiry unit is linked to making healthy choices. As part of this we will be encouraging the students to eat healthy snacks and lunches throughout the year. • Children need a personal water bottle to ensure they get • adequate water throughout the school day. • (Please note Bradbury is a nut free school).

Supplies • Your child should bring to school: • A book bag / A3 zip pouch • Lunch boxes (easy to open) • Water bottle • School hat • Art apron • Pencil case • HB pencils • Pencil sharpener • Eraser • Coloured pencils • 30cm ruler • Solid glue stick • Scissors • Highlighter pens • No pens needed

  8. HomeworkHomework is set fortnightly and goes out on a Monday. There will be a hand-in date on each homework (usually the Wednesday before the next homework is handed out).Homework may include an inquiry project, reading, spelling, research, writing, Mathematics, games or ICT.Occasionally, incomplete work may be sent home to finish.

  10. How you can help • Promote independence • Provide a quiet working space for homework to be carried out. Homework is handed in on time. • Packing their own bag • Message awareness • Responsibilities at home • Help your child check that their homework is carried out • Your child should know • What the day of the week and month is • Their date of birth • Their phone number • Their last name • Where they live • What they have for snack and lunch • What their end of day arrangements are • * Ensure your child has enough sleep

Parent Involvement • Class parent • Each class has a class representative. • If you wish to be a class helper, supporting small group work and activities– please see the sign up sheet. • Educational visits (parents only). • Occasional help i.e. art lessons, props for assembly, bringing in food for special events, backing new books, etc. • Present to classes an area of expertise to come into class to present e.g. doctors, dentists, nutritionists. • Sending things into school e.g. newspapers and magazines.

  12. Email Correspondence Environment Friendly • As needed, your class teacher/ year leader/ phase leader will correspond via email. • Please inform us if your email address changes. • Please be aware that immediate responses cannot always be expected, particularly during school hours.

Food • NUT FREE ZONE • No nuts at school due to severe allergies • Birthday cakes • If you are planning to send in cakes for your child’s birthday, please notify the class teacher • Individual portions are preferred for organisation purposes • Snack and Lunch • Please do not send fizzy drinks or candy • Students should be able to open their own container independently

Reminders • Label everything – clothes, snack boxes and containers, water bottles, pencils. • Regularly check stationery supplies. • Information on allergies / medical conditions needs to be given to the class teacher and school nurse. • All medication needs to be administered by the school nurse and kept in her office during the school day. A note from you must accompany the medicine. • Children must keep a uniformed hat in school everyday (named). • Buses – notify the PTA if any changes and report in the diary to the class teacher. • Please note students cannot change buses.

  15. The Gateway Completed sections of reports can be accessed throughout the year (eg UoI Comments) Reports can be downloaded as a PDF document and printed off by parents at the end of the year. The school will not be sending home a hard copy of the report this year. Parent/Teacher Consultations (Nov) - booking appointments will be online through Gateway . Usernames and login Passwords will be sent to new families (including Y1) . Current families who have a child joining Y1 this year should login and accept the child to their account Mr. Ainsworth
