  7. The Curriculum • Yearly Overview and Year 5 Calendar • Programme of Inquiry • Language • Mathematics • Chinese (Chinese information evening: Wednesday, 8 September at 6:30) • PE (swimming) • Music, Visual Art and Drama (additional lessons)

  8. Programme of Inquiry • 6 Transdisciplinary Themes each with a central idea and three to five lines of inquiry. • Example • 1

  9. Language Maths • 5 Strands (number, pattern & function, measurement, shape & space and data handling) • Targets (ongoing and unit) • Mental strategies • Information and digital literacy • Reading • Writing (includes spelling) • Oral • Visual • Information and digital literacy

  10. Ongoing Online Assessment • Ongoing Online Assessment can be accessed through your parent Gateway login. Please contact George Tibbetts at george.tibbetts@discovery.edu.hk • Assessment for all subjects will be available periodically. You will be notified through email when updates are available. • PDF version can be downloaded at the end of the year.

Learning Development TeamWhat do we do? • Believe children learn and grow at different paces and can be supported at whatever stage they are in • Have a strong inclusive philosophy • Whenever possible we provide IN CLASS support for students • Provide support in all areas of the curriculum • Provide support in the areas of Gifted & Talented, EAL, IN & Mother Tongue • Provide teachers with strategies to help students access the curriculum • Communicate with Teachers and parents regarding student’s progress • Establish targets and interventions • We also provide Mother Tongue support groups. All information will be provided in the explorer

Homework • Purpose (communication, work habits, self management) • Level of difficulty • Set Homework handed out on Mondays • Due in Monday (sometimes 2 or 3 weeks given) • 2 hours total • Maths, Language/Inquiry, Chinese • ‘Catch up’ homework periodically • Signed notes in diary if late or extension required

  15. Camp - Cheung Chau • The camp will focus on 3 main features: • Social challenges • Team building • Physical challenge • 27th, 28th and 29th October • Dormitories • Outdoor activities

Important Camp Information • No mobile phones • Emergency contact information given in • letter • No sweets, snacks, electronic games • Bedding provided • Packing (one large bag and one day pack) • All bedding is supplied Supervision A combination of staff and parent volunteers. Requests for expression of interest will come out soon.
