  10. Situation #1: Turkey and Greece • Problem: • GB can’t send $ to T & G; fear T & G will become communist • Solution: • Truman Doctrine: • Policy of containment (stop spread communism) • U.S. gave aid to T & G ($400 mill.)

  11. Situation #2: War-torn Europe • Problem: • Europe in poverty; fear turn to communism for help • Solution: • Marshall Plan: • Econ. recovery plan for Europe ($13 bill.) • Soviet Response: • COMECON and Cominform • Econ. recovery plan for communist countries

  12. Situation #3: Berlin • Problem: • Soviets blockaded E. Germ., which meant W. Berlin faced starvation • Solution: • Berlin Airlift: • Airlifted supplies to W. Berlin • Effect on Germany: • Permanently divided
