  4. What are the Goals and Objectives? Expand ASHRAE’s value to the residential building sector Provide leadership in high-performance residential buildings Expand collaboration with the residential building community Provide a visionary future for the residential building marketplace
  5. Where are the Gaps & Opportunities? Equipment technologies Indoor environmental quality Materials technology and characterization Energy simulation and analysis Energy performance assessment Standards and guidelines Professional education and training Practitioner credentialing
  6. How Does ASHRAE Participate? ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals is considered the energy engineering “standard of care” Examples include: Calculation procedures (U-factors, infiltration and ventilation, etc.) Material properties (required to calculate thermal and moisture transmission) Software algorithms (load calculations, heat transfer, mass transfer, ground contact, etc.)
  7. How Does ASHRAE Participate? ASHRAE Standards and publications are widely used by other codes and standards making bodies Examples include: ICC (IECC, IRC, IMC, etc.) ACCA (Design manuals and Quality Assurance standards) RESNET (Home Energy Ratings & Energy Simulation Software Accreditation) BPI (Energy Analysis and Practitioner Credentialing) Federal Agencies (DOE, EPA, HUD high performance and existing home programs and manufactured home codes)
  8. Questions We Want to Address How can ASHRAE encourage greater collaboration in the residential marketplace? What are the technical and research gaps where ASHRAE could or should play a role? What leadership can ASHRAE offer in residential codes and standards development? What market support functions can ASHRAE offer the residential building community? How can ASHRAE provide greater value to the residential building community?
